Sara Musallam, Chairperson at the Department of Education and Knowledge, said:
“We recognise that in the current circumstances, some families may require special support”.
The fund has been made possible by donations from private individuals and from public and private sector companies. Among them were members of the royal family, including Sheikh Sultan bin Hamdan, who pledged AED 20 million.
Earlier this month, Ma’an and the Aldar Properties signed a strategic agreement that will see both organisations address priority social challenges through social contracting. Aldar will invest AED 2 million, as a demonstration of their commitment to the programme. Today Aldar also announced that its employees are contributing AED 1 million to the programme.
Families can apply for support with education expenses, healthcare, food and basic needs by contacting Ma'an on 800-3088 or by visiting 'Togetherwearegood'. The closing date for fees assistance applications is 23rd April 2020.
Ma'an can accept donations small and large through a text message, WhatsApp and phone number service. Organisations or individuals who wish to contribute financially to the fund can send SMS messages to 6670 (AED 1,000), 6678 (AED 500), 6683 (AED 100) and 6658 (AED 50). They can also call 8005-MAAN to volunteer and to make financial contributions above AED 1,000.
